RCS/ BADS Conference: Day Surgery & Enhanced recovery: where next?

Date: Friday 24 September

Venue: 20 Cavendish Square, London

Extending the range of day surgery is a declared aim of the new coalition government, and reducing length of stay for surgical patients is the driver for the new Department of Health Enhanced Recovery Programme. Both of these factors in health policy are likely to start changing organisation and practice in surgical departments across the UK.

With this in mind the College has teamed up with the British Association of Day Surgery for a one-day conference focusing on the clinical and organisational implications, challenges and opportunities of this trend. Attendance is free of charge and recommended for surgeons and local NHS commissioners and managers. For more detail and to register click here.

New rules for marketing medical devices? Register today to attend the MedTech Forum 2010 policy debate on "Safe, Smart and Global" and stay on top of the debate!

This year's MedTech Forum will feature a series of high-level debates to discuss the state of healthcare policy in Europe. One of this year's highlights is the high-level debate "Safe, Smart and Global: Are we aiming at a modern 'patient centred' device regulation that also balances health budgets?" taking place on Wednesday 13 October 2010 from 14.00-15.30 at the Crowne Plaza in Brussels.

The European Union is about to change its rules for marketing medical devices. In a global context, will the new rules put the EU far ahead in both patient centred thinking and smart use of tax payers' money?

This question will be answered by a panel of distinguished speakers:

  • Jacqueline Minor, Director Consumer Affairs, European Commission DG SANCO
  • Dr Giuseppe Ruocco, Head of the Department of Medicines and Medical devices, Italian Ministry of Health
  • Nicola Bedlington, Director, European Patients' Forum (EPF)
  • Representative of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Two other high-level debates on the topics "Valuing innovation: Patient perspectives from across Europe" and "Squaring the circle: Balancing quality of care with efficiency and productivity" are also organised on that day. They will be followed by a CEO Summit with global and European senior leaders and the day will end with the traditional Gala dinner.

The MedTech Forum is the biggest Health and Industry policy event in Europe, bringing together over 400 thought leaders from various organisations active in EU healthcare scene. These include policy-makers, scientific communities, patients' representatives, healthcare professionals, academics and the medical technology industry.

The Eucomed Secretariat, on behalf of the European Medical Technology Industry, is looking forward to welcoming you to Brussels for this unique event!
